Backfire

On our long drive home from Florida, we stopped at a North Carolina Denny's for dinner. Grandma had let both the kids reach into a money jar and take a hand full of money home with them. At Denny's, Alex found a way to spend his money. They had one of those claw machines full of stuffed animals. Shaun spent 5 minutes explaining to Alex how they are a waste of money and how they don't give you anything in return for your 50 cents. But Alex was persistent and wanted to spend his money, so Shaun figured it would be a good lesson...let him waste his money and when he experienced for himself getting nothing then he would be less inclined to waste his money next time.
And of course his plan backfired.
Alex skipped back to the car with a big stuffed blue bear in his hands, bragging to Annie how he could get cool toys out of those machines when ever he wanted. That's one life lesson that did not go over as planned.
