My mom spent 5 years living in Virginia Beach. So we went down to find her old house, school, library, and other special places she remembers from being 11 years old. She found that some things haven't changed much, but then there were areas of homes and shopping that were all forest when she lived there 40 years ago. And of course since we were down there we spent some time at the beach. This was the first time that Annie and Alex had ever seen the beach. Both of them were unsure about what to think of it at first. The water was very cold. They would put their feet in the water and run away as the water splashed towards them. Within the first 10 minutes of getting to the water they both fell in. Annie didn't want to go near the water after that, but being submersed in sea water made Alex like it more. Alex spent an hour running up and down the surf chasing waves and finding sand fleas with me. Then they discovered the sand.

They both were covered from head to toe in sand. I showed Annie how to bury herself in the sand and Alex wanted in on it too. I will be finding sand for the next week. Alex wanted us to bury his whole body, but he didn't have the patience to sit still for it, so the best we got were his legs. They threw sand into the ocean and played with sticks that had washed up on the shore. We couldn't have asked for a prettier day!

We also decided to rent a surrey bike. I'd never done that before and it was harder to pedal then it looked. It was better when we turned around and started going with the wind. We had so much fun with grandma!
